There are a million places to pick up great Halloween decorations. You can even walk into a gas station and find Halloween decorations between August and October. However, some stores are better than others depending on what you’re looking for in terms of price, size, types of decorations, and convenience. Here are a few thoughts to guide you.

Best Stores for Halloween Decorations

Spirit Halloween These stores seem to pop up in August every year like fall mushrooms taking over abandoned retail space almost overnight. They have great decorations although probably known primarily for costumes. Everything in this store is 100% Halloween so it is easy to find what you’re looking for. The prices are fair, but get even better with the readily available coupons in the mail or online. Even if you don’t buy from them, you certainly need to walk through the store for some great ideas. Some decorations available here include animatronics, fog machines and supplies, and the classic spiderwebs and tombstones.

Home Depot While Home Depot is really a construction supply store, they actually have one of the best selections for BIG Halloween decorations, especially for the outdoors. It seems like each year the sell a few new, large items such as the 12 foot skeletons, the skeleton horse and carriage, yard inflatables, tombstones and beyond. The bigger items seem to quickly and be in limited supply, so keep your eyes open when they make that transition to the Halloween season.

Oriental Trading This general online party supply store has a large selection of relatively cheap Halloween decorations and costumes. They seem to carry some unique items that aren’t found in some of the other stores, so it is definitely worth scrolling through their website. Their site will help you spur some great ideas. They also have lots of cheap bulk items if you wanted to give away some little plastic “tricks” rather than “treats” at Halloween- think glowsticks, mini plastic pumpkins, plastic spider rings, etc. Oriental Trading is also a good place to find Halloween party supplies.

Halloween Express This online retailer might be more well known for their costumes but they also have a great selection of decorations. They supply both indoor and outdoor decorations. Their pricing is fair after their sale prices are applied.

Dollar Tree Dollar Tree’s big advantage is just being cheap. The selection isn’t huge but items only cost $1.25. Sometimes having awesome Halloween decorations is just having a large volume so you can easily stock up on items here at a low cost. Small foam tombstones, foam pumpkins, plastic chains, plastic eyeballs, and witches brooms are the types of things readily supplied.

Party City/Halloween City Party City is another party supply store open year round. They open stores branded Halloween City seasonally between August and November specifically to sell Halloween costumes, decorations, and party supplies. They do not even open their website until the Halloween season, but when they do, you can find some interesting Halloween treasures.

Amazon The advantages of Amazon are that you can find almost anything, super fast and convenient ordering/shipping, and a great return program. However, since it is such a huge marketplace, you have to go into it looking for something specific. Other sites such as Spirit Halloween or Oriental Trading are better for browsing for ideas or seeing Halloween decorations by themes.

Target Target has their “Hyde and Eek Boutique” with a fair number of Halloween decorations and some costumes. Their decorations seem to be a bit higher quality and more robust than some of the other stores. It is always worth checking them out…because you may likely be at Target for other things anyway. They also seem to have some good after Halloween season clearance deals.

Walmart Like Amazon or Target, Walmart sells just about everything including Halloween supplies. If you know what you’re looking for, you can shop online with them for good deals and shipping. However, it may not be the best option if you are just browsing for Halloween items since this isn’t their #1 focus.
